Material Readiness & Constraints

The Material Readiness & Constraints dashboard provides visibility into material availability, shortages, and production-blocking risks. It is designed for planners, buyers, and production managers who need to know which components are constraining execution and which production orders are ready to proceed.

When reviewing this dashboard, keep in mind that a single component in shortage can block multiple production orders at once, which is why the Top 10 Components in Shortage chart is often the right place to start. If the same components appear here repeatedly, it typically points to a supplier or planning issue worth addressing upstream. The Order Pick / Issue List shows exactly which orders are ready to go and which are stalled, making it the go-to view for taking action.

Benefits of this dashboard

  • Identify which materials are blocking production with a clear shortage breakdown.
  • Differentiate between available, soft shortage, and hard shortage conditions to prioritize the right actions.
  • Assess which production orders are ready to issue and which are constrained by missing components.
  • Focus procurement on the most critical shortages affecting production flow.
  • Align production, inventory, and purchasing teams around shared, real-time material data.

Key performance indicators (KPIs)

Key performance indicators (KPIs) are displayed at the top of the dashboard. They give you an at-a-glance summary of the current material situation and update based on the filters you apply.

KPIDescription
Active Production OrdersNumber of production orders currently consuming or requiring materials. Reflects the overall demand pressure on inventory.
Active Material RequirementCount of distinct material requirements linked to active production orders. Indicates the breadth of material dependency across the production plan.
Components in Hard ShortageNumber of component items where available inventory cannot meet remaining production demand. Shows how widespread material issues are.
Total Hard Shortage QTYTotal quantity of material shortfall based on hard availability. Reflects the scale of constraints, not just the number of items affected.
Orders Blocked by Material ShortageNumber of production orders that cannot proceed because at least one required component is in hard shortage. A direct measure of operational impact.
% Orders BlockedPercentage of active production orders currently blocked due to material shortages. A high value signals immediate risk to production throughput.
