Prompt / Quick Prompt
Prompt and Quick Prompt both help you select values from a dimension and apply them as filters in your formulas or extractions. Only dimensions that have a prompt defined in the data model will appear in either dialog.
The key difference is how many values you can select and how much context you see before choosing.
Tool comparison
| Tool | Description |
|---|---|
| Prompt | Opens a full dialog where you can browse, search, sort, and select multiple values at once. Ideal when you need context (codes, descriptions, attributes) before choosing. |
| Quick Prompt | A lightweight picker that lets you quickly insert a single value from a dimension. Designed for speed when you already know what you’re looking for. |
When to use prompts
- Filtering data for a specific item: Pick a single value such as a salesperson, customer, or product.
- Comparing multiple values: Select several dimension values to analyze side by side.
- Avoiding manual entry: Insert values directly without typing them into formulas.
- Working with long value lists: Use search, filter, and sort tools to find the right items.
- Viewing details before selecting: See additional fields (codes, descriptions, attributes) to ensure you pick the correct value.
