Environment Configuration

The Environment Configuration tool lets you map the environment used in your Excel file based on the environments defined by the connected Central Point.

This is especially useful in multi‑environment setups, shared Excel workbooks, and deployments where data sources vary depending on the user or context.

When to change environments

  • Swtiching between environments: Choose the appropriate environment (Test, Development, or Production) without modifying the Excel workbook.
  • Maintaining environment-specific connections: Keep Excel workbook connections aligned with each environment without creating multiple Excel workbook versions.
  • Ensure correct data usage: Map the environment so formulas and data refreshes always use the intended source.

Dialog overview

The window is split into two panels:

PanelDescription
Workbook ConfigurationShows the environments currently used in the Excel workbook on the left, including those originating from features such as Data Extraction, Pivot Tables, or References Configuration.
Available environmentsLists all environments provided by the connected Central Point on the right panel.

Map environments

  1. In Excel, open the Add-ins tab and select Environment Configurations.
  2. In the Workbook Configuration panel, select the environment you want to map, then choose the corresponding environment in the Available Environments panel.
Mapped environments appear as selected. Unlike data models, the mapped environments do not need to match by name.
  3. Select Save to apply the mapping and confirm when prompted.
  4. Select Close when finished.
