Upgrade

This section describes the main steps to upgrade SEI to the latest version.

When the production server of SEI cannot be restarted (e.g. is shared with an ERP), it should be possible to avoid the restart. However it is recommended to allow Windows to clean its dependencies through a reboot. Therefore, it is recommended to plan the upgrade at a moment when the server can be restarted.

Note

If you plan to change servers as part of your upgrade, please follow the steps mentioned in Moving a Central Point before proceeding with the upgrade.

Upgrading from... Perform these steps
Versions 8.2.8, 9.X, 2021 R.X
  1. Test on a separate environment (optional but highly recommended, see Testing).
  2. Log in to the web application and take note of the license information.
  3. Back up the SEI database.
  4. Back up the Central Point shared folder.
  5. Uninstall SEI (Uninstalling the Previous Version).

Note:  This step is only required the first time you install version 2022 R1.X. Subsequent installations will not require any uninstall.

  6. Install SEI (Upgrading SEI).
  7. Upgrade the Add-in (Upgrading the Excel Add-in).
  8. Uninstall the Web Central Point Configurator (Uninstalling the Web Central Point Configurator).
  9. Install the Web Central Point Configurator (optional but recommended, see Installing the Web Central Point Configurator).
Versions 6.X, 7.X, 8.2
  1. Make sure .Net Framework 4.8 is installed if you are upgrading from 8.2.7.X or earlier version. .Net Framework 4.8 is required to install SEI Server - Win64.exe and SEI Excel Add-in WIN**.exe. For the installation of the packages, it is mandatory to restart your server/workstation.

  2. Perform an intermediary upgrade to V9 or 2021 R1.1, and then upgrade to 2022 R1.

  3. The licensing model for SEI has changed with version 9. Contact your Account Manager to verify the compatibility and have your license transformed to the new model.

  4. Release your license.

  5. Install the BI License Database.

  6. Perform the other steps as mentioned above for later versions.

Important

In every instance never uninstall the database packages; they contain important data:

  • SEI Central Point for SQL Server and Oracle.exe,

  • SEI License Server.exe,

  • SEI OLAP for SQL Server.exe.
